Public Forums
The LGAA decided in 2002 to extend
their educational mission by conducting forums on
relevant topics in Golden for the public at large. Most
notable of the public forums are those that are held at
election time. While these deal mostly with the Golden
elections and feature the candidates for City Council,
one was also held during the 2004 election to debate the
pros and cons of the Jefferson County School District
funding proposals.
Golden Election Forums follow a
format of having the candidates make opening and closing
statements and also responding to questions that have
been developed beforehand by the forum committee with
some public input. If there are any questions or
referenda on the ballot, the forum will also have
debates on such items featuring a speaker of both sides
of the issue.
Elections are not the only forums conducted by LGAA.
When a subject is highly visible in the community, LGAA
tries to educate and engage the public on the issue.
Topical forums have been held on Open Space, Downtown
Vitality and Light Rail. The format for these forums is
a roundtable of appropriate representatives of
organizations involved in the issue that make
presentations and then respond to questions from the
audience. |
