Leadership Golden education sessions are held at
various locations throughout the city and various
vendors in the city provide food. Sessions are scheduled
from 6 to 9 p.m. It is the practice to start on time
and many sessions end early.

Facilities Tour

The first session of the Leadership Golden seminar

with a continental breakfast, followed by spending some
time getting acquainted with fellow participants and the
Steering Committee members. The remainder of the morning
includes a presentation on communication, perception of
situations and leadership skills, to name a few. Team
building exercises round out this part of the day. After
lunch, the afternoon is spent touring city facilities.
Although the places visited can vary from year to year,
the Police and Fire Departments, and the Water Treatment
are normally on the agenda.

Tuesday, October 23, 2012
6 - 9 p.m.
What about those sales taxes, where do they go? What is
the annual budget for Golden? How are our monies spent?
These and may other questions are answered at this

Public Works Director present this session.
Growth and Development
Tuesday, November 13, 2012
6 - 9 p.m.
Always topics of interest, presenters at this session
have in the past included a representative from GURA,
Jefferson County Open Space and the Director of Planning
for the city. Topics include those foremost in people's
mind at the time, as well as general topics requested by
the Steering Committee or chosen by the presenters.
Education
Tuesday, January 8, 2013
6 - 9 p.m.
Representatives from the three levels of Golden
schools (Elementary, Middle School and High School) and
the Central Administration for Jefferson County Schools
(Superintendent and Area Administrator) take part in
this session. The format for the evening can vary, but
recently an open forum has proven to be best. The panel
answers questions about their particular part in
educating our youth, as well as education in general.
The evening is spent in one of the school buildings in
the city.
Arts and Recreation
Tuesday, February 12, 2013
6 - 9 p.m.
The Arts & Recreation Director for the city of
Golden, the Director of the Foothills Art Center and
other representatives of the arts in Golden give lively
presentations on their responsibilities and facilities.
Although this session has been held in various places,
our favorite is the Foothills Art Center.
Justice
Tuesday, March 12, 2013
6 - 9 p.m.
This is a very memorable session. It is usually held
at the Jefferson County Jail and the evening ends with a
tour of the facilities and it is quite the "eye opener".
Presenters for this session have and most often do
include a Jefferson County Judge, the Sheriff, the
District Attorney and the Chief of Police. This is a
very full evening, but full of interesting information
regarding our justice system from all angles. We suggest
comfortable shoes for the tour.
Participating in the
Community
Tuesday, April 9, 2013
6 - 9 p.m.
The purpose of this evening is to introduce the class to
volunteer opportunities within our city. The format
varies from year to year. A listing of some of the
organizations who seek volunteers is listed on the
Leadership Golden website at
www.leadershipgolden.org.
An Experience in Governing
Tuesday, April 23, 2013
6 - 9 p.m.
So you want to be on City Council, maybe even the
Mayor. Or maybe you just want to address the council pro
or con on a given issue. Well here is your chance.
The last session of the year is held in Council
Chambers and the evening consists of a "mock" council
meeting discussing a current issue in the city. The
class members are given roles to play (council member,
mayor, citizen--pro, citizen--con, and court clerk).
Background material is issued to make the role playing
easier and a "real" councilor acts as the city attorney.
Let the meeting come to order!
Graduation
Tuesday, May 7, 2013
6 - 9 p.m.
You and a guest are invited to dinner and a special
night to end the year.
Note: Locations for the sessions will vary.
