Youth Leadership Golden
Revived for 2008
Class Session Schedule
The Leadership Golden Alumni Association Board of
Directors is pleased to announce the continuation of the
leadership program for high school students in 2008. The
program, known as Youth Leadership Golden (formerly Junior
Leadership Golden), was first held in 2003. There will be
seven sessions, from January through April, 2008, each
beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the evening and ending around 8:15
p.m. There will also be a tour of City facilities lasting
about 3 hours on the Saturday after the first session.
The program is an extension of the Adult Leadership
Golden program which began in 1984 and has over 400
graduates. The youth oriented program is designed to
educate emerging young leaders and volunteers to the
realities, opportunities and challenges in Golden.
The program is free of cost, but is limited to 20
(twenty) students. Students must attend all sessions to
complete the program. Although most of the past graduates
attended Golden High School, the program is open to any high
school student who resides in Golden.
Youth Leadership Golden is coordinated through Golden
High School, where applications can be picked up at the main
office and returned to the same place no later than December
1, 2007, for processing. Any inquiries about the program
can be directed to Andrea Evans at 303/271-0890 (e-mail:
andreaevans2@gmail.com) or Mike Murphy, High School
Principal.
In 2002, the LGAA Board decided to
expand its leadership program to the youth of the
community. The program, originally named Junior Leadership
Golden, but now called Youth Leadership Golden was first
conducted in 2003 with 14 students and because of its
success, the Board decided to make it an annual offering.
In 2005, there were 22 students and in 2006, 19 students.
The program is free of charge and open
to all students of Golden High School and any other high
school students who live in Golden. Applications are made
available at the High School office and also distributed
during Back-To-School and Parent-Teacher conference nights.
The program mimics the adult program, with respect to the
topics covered (except for education). It is held during
the second semester of the school year from January through
April at seven evening sessions that are 2 ½ hours in
length. A City facilities tour is also held on a Saturday
morning and the last session of the program is the
traditional mock City Council session. An appropriate
recognition and celebration ceremony is held in May for the
students and their parents. Funding for the Youth Leadership Program is usually obtained
via grants received from local foundations, organizations
and businesses. |
