What is Leadership Golden?

The Leadership Golden program is a series of seminars spanning a nine month period. These seminars facilitate opportunities for participants to increase their knowledge of the relationships between government, education, business, and the community of Golden. Participants have the opportunity to explore options and methods of problem solving with city staff and community leaders in the fields of education, arts, recreation, public finance, city and county government, justice, community responsibility and economic development. The Leadership Golden program is designed to enhance the abilities of the participants to make a difference. The program educates emerging leaders and volunteers to the realities, opportunities and challenges in Golden, Colorado.

Being new to the community, the Leadership Golden experience opened my eyes to the city’s components, its function and operation. In LG you meet the various organizations and leaders who help make our city thrive. You know where to go and who to talk to when issues arise. But the best part is you come to know and respect so many community members!

Every holiday season Leadership Golden offers for sale a beautiful holiday ornament portraying one of the many treasured aspects of living in Golden. Proceeds from the sale of the ornaments go directly to operating expenses for the Leadership Golden. These sales are important because Leadership Golden offers free tuition - one of the very few leadership programs in the U.S. that IS offered for free — and there are very few options for the Leadership Golden team to raise the necessary funds to cover expenses. Fortunately, sales are never a problem. These beautiful, limited-edition ornaments are prized as collectibles, and they sell out fast!

The Leadership Golden annual ornament for 2019 is a view of Clear Creek in the fall with Mt Zion in the background. Once again, our local artist is Jesse Crock and the design is taken from his painting entitled "Clear Creek Radiance." The collectible ornament is still only $12 and can be purchased right now from Avenue Gifts on Washington. As we get closer to the holidays, class members will have ornaments for sale, and they'll also be available at the Visitors Center and Clear Creek Jewelers. Most everyone who lives in Golden already knows Jesse's work (jessecrockart.com)  and for visitors, it's a memorable souvenir of their time in our fair city.  A work of art for $12!

On a single day each year, Coloradans are given the opportunity to make online donations to their favorite non-profit organization(s). Many LG Alumni contribute, with each donation being matched by Denver Area Sponsors. You may schedule your payment between November 1st and December 9th to be effective on 10 December, in order to ensure a matching donation. Please remember LGAA when giving this year!
